The Benefits to Using Video Editing

1.  Allows you to make changes necessary without having to re-film your entire lesson, or project
2.  You can add music, transitions, title pages, and credits
3.  Caters to multiple intelligences
4.  Provides a project for students who need higher level assignments (Higher level of Blooms Taxonomy)
5.  Saves time by allowing you to continually edit additional pieces (if you were to make a movie for a whole semester project that involves individual pieces)

Benefits to Using a Webquest

1.  Offers a creative way for students to research a topic in a guided way.
2.  Students will be able to collaborate to see if they are collecting the same answers.
3.  It allows the teacher an assessment tool to see if the students and grasping the correct concepts.
4.  It caters to many mulitple intelligences, thus capturing a greater audience.  Students who learn in different ways will be able to connect with a webquest and find it interesting.
5.  Easily differentiable.  For students who need more stimulation, give them greater objectives to accomplish.  For example, answering more in depth questions throughout the webquest.

Tips for Teaching Technology

1.  Incorporate technology into your everyday curriculum.  You can do this for any subject.
2.  Differentiate your instruction. Some students may be very knowledgable about technology, while others have never used a computer before.
3.  Allow students the opportunity to teach the class through the use of powerpoints etc. This will encourage learning and will allow the students to be involved.
4.  Teach students about the importance of technology and the benefits it provides. Encourage the use of technology in your classroom rather than discourage it.

What if there is no money?

I am sure you have all seen, through the emails on campus, that Westminster is now REQUIRING that all students own their own laptop.  I understand this is higher education, and that there are financial aide options available for those who do not have a laptop, and cannot afford one, but how does this work in elementary education? We all know funding for education is very limited, and that many teachers use their own money to enhance their classroom materials. How are we supposed to implement the use of technology in our classroom if there is no funding to buy the technology in the first place?
